Indiana Farmers Races for the Cure

April 19, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS - For the third year in a row, Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company associates, family, and friends teamed up for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

This year, a record 62 members formed the IFM Smarties team to help raise money and awareness of breast cancer, a disease that hits too close to home for many people.

“I’ve been doing this race for a lot of years. My mother is going to be a 19-year-survivor this year and I myself am at three years,” said team captain Karen Thornberry.

“I’ve had a lot of people in my life who have been affected by breast cancer. It’s good to come out and show some awareness and sponsor folks who are running and raise funds,” said team member Glenn Toren.

The team was a joint effort by Indiana Farmers’ Corporate Social Responsibility and Wellness In Action programs. These programs, developed by associates, promote a culture that emphasizes and sets high standards for corporate social responsibility along with an active and healthy lifestyle.

“I love 5Ks. It’s fun to be with my co-workers and support a lot of my friends,” Karen Gary, team member, said.

“It is a great event that brings comradery for everybody,” said team member Sherry Townsend. “It’s great to work for a company like this.”
