We are currently searching for an experienced individual to serve as a Workers’ Compensation Claims Representative III. The ideal candidate will perform duties to independently manage a caseload of complex workers’ compensation claims, determine compensability, set reserves, and process payments, within the limits of standard or accepted practice. A key component of this position is the satisfaction of the policyholder and the third-party claimant. Because of the level of experience required for this role, this person would be considered a subject matter expert.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • review claims set-up for accuracy and updates
  • assess policy coverage and notify the insured of any issues
  • plan, conduct, and document investigations to determine coverage, compensability, and injuries
  • analyze legal issues and direct legal strategy
  • analyze and interpret statutes and regulations
  • apply analysis to case facts to render appropriate legal and ethical decisions
  • utilize independent judgment in decision-making
  • manage claims in a prompt and thorough manner from inception through closure
  • negotiate settlement of claims
  • attend mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, participate in depositions and litigation
  • manage and oversee independent adjusters, experts, counsel, and other vendors
  • prepare comprehensive reports
  • handle special projects
  • perform related duties as needed
Qualifications and skills we are looking for include:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of relevant experience
  • At least five years of experience handling complex workers’ compensation claims
  • Multistate jurisdictional experience is required; Illinois jurisdictional experience is highly preferred
  • Industry designations that show you are a student of your field are preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (bilingual abilities are a plus)
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills for dealing with peers, agents, insureds, and other outside contacts
  • High level of organizational, reasoning and listening skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to drive a car, possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR
  • Ability to accept minimal travel schedule (10% to 20%)
  • Being located in Indiana or Illinois is preferable
  • Good computer skills including knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and web-based programs
