5 Things To Do in Corydon

September 06, 2016
Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance is proud to be the official sponsor of the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay. The 3,200-mile, 92 county Torch Relay across Indiana will begin in Corydon, the state’s first capital, and culminate at the Statehouse Grounds in downtown Indianapolis on October 15.
Join us Friday, September 9 in Corydon when the torch is lit and the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay begins. Then stick around to experience some of the best of what Corydon has to offer. We’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorite things to do in Corydon.

What are some of your Corydon, Indiana must do items? Tweet us at @IndianaFarmers

  1. Original Indiana Capitol building – Completed in 1816, this federal-style limestone building served as the state capitol until 1825. Tours are available Tuesdays – Sundays.
  2. Constitutional Elm – As the 43 delegates met in the Harrison County Courthouse in June 1816 to hash out the language in the state constitution, they found the conditions cramped and oppressively hot. So many of their meetings instead took place outside under the shade of an Elm tree. While the tree has long since succumbed to Dutch Elm disease, the stump has been preserved.
  3. Indiana Caverns – Go 110 feet underground and explore part of the nation’s seventh largest cave system by walking and by boat. Part of the Walking and Boat Tour includes a 25-minute boat ride on an underground river.
  4. Indiana Wineries – There are a number of local wineries and microbreweries in the Corydon area. Best Vineyards, Scout Mountain, Indian Creek, Quibble Hill and Turtle Run are all just a short drive from downtown Corydon.
  5. Corydon Historic District – Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this district contains the original Indiana Capitol building and a number of other historically significant buildings and monuments, but it also includes a wide variety of shopping and dining opportunities.

We’re proud to play a role in the Bicentennial Torch Relay as the torchbearers will be wearing uniforms sponsored by us. Come join in this historic occasion, and some Corydon culture.
