Winter-Ready Vehicle Tips

Car in snowWinter is approaching. Here are some handy tips to get your vehicle ready:

1. Change your wiper blades now while the weather is good. I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" so buy a good quality blade.

2. Have your tires rotated. If you have new tires, take your vehicle to the shop/dealer and they will usually do this for free as well as an inspection.

3. Top off your washer fluid with a winter freeze proof fluid. DO NOT put anti-freeze in your washer fluid. This will leave a film on your windshield. Keep the anti-freeze in the radiator.

4. Check your battery. Remove corrosion and have it tested. My experience: if it's more than five years old, get a new one. There should be a date label on the battery. Auto parts stores can help with most batteries and wipers.

5. Lastly, keep a can of WD-40 handy. You can usually get locks and latches thawed by spraying this in the doors and locks.

Be safe out there this winter on the roads.

It's also a good idea to assemble a winter emergency kit for your vehicle. Click here for a list of what you should include.
